Trail Building Week – Thessaloniki 2019

Many times we have mentioned that the construction and maintenance of purpose-built bike trails is the key element for the development of cycling tourism and, in particular, of mountain bike destinations.
Bike trails networks, are nowadays built by specialised group of people with high level know-how, with safety and riding pleasure at the core of trail building projects.

Nevertheless we strongly believe that the contribution and involvement of the local cycling community is the prerequisite for the rational and sustainable development of a bike destination.

That is why, we would like to call all the local mtb community of Thessaloniki at Trail Building Week 2019, where Aegean Trails and Outline Tourism, will co-organise a voluntary week of construction and maintenance of bike trails at Thessaloniki from 30 March to 6 April. Bikers from all over Europe among the local bike community will join together, for the sustainable development of Thessaloniki as an mtb destination. The project is supported by the Region of Central Macedonia.

Aegean Trails is an international solitary supportive initiative, which stands for a concept of legal path construction and maintenance and a uniform system of path signposting, but also for a touristic usability and worldwide promotion of it. Step by step is emerging a new attractive bike region in the Aegean, which can benefit equally both locals and tourists.

After two successful trail building weeks on the Dodecanese Islands in 2017 and 2018 (Kos, Leros, Patmos, Nisyros), it is time to change the location in order to spread the Aegean Trails idea.

Our partner for this project, Outline Tourism is a bike tourism company located in Thessaloniki, offering mtb holidays in Greece and also developing and promoting mountain bike destinations and bike hotels.

We would like to thank all the sponsors, local institutions and most of all the volunteers and local riders for their support and participation at the Trail Building Week 2019!
